Populace: Chloe Laurent
I am a resident of the EU
Population of EU: 492,387,344 (July 2010 est.)

Language
In the EU there are 23 languages. As of 2007, the only official languages are listed; German, the major language of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, is the most widely spoken mother tongue - over 19% of the EU population; English is the most widely spoken language - about 49% of the EU population is conversant with it. Besides the 23 official languages, there are about 150 regional and minority languages, spoken by up to 50 million people. In the EU, Important documents, such as legislation, are translated into every official language. The European Parliament provides translation into all languages for documents and its plenary sessions.

Cuisine/Diet
France: French cuisine is extremely diverse and has exerted a major influence on other western cuisines. According to the regions, traditional recipes are different, the North of the country prefers to use butter as the preferred fat for cooking, whereas olive oil is more commonly used in the South. The elements of food are key to the quality of life for people who live in France. However, their diets usually consist of rich foods, wine and tobacco. When they eat these rich foods, they take their time unlike Americans and eat smaller portions. They don’t inhale their food to the point where they are overly full afterward. The French prefer to have long dinner that take all night.

Culture /Leisure
Europe is proud of its cultural diversity. Language, literature, theatre, visual arts, architecture, crafts, the cinema and broadcasting may belong to a specific country or region, but they represent part of Europe's common cultural heritage. The European Union aims to preserve and support this diversity and to help make it accessible to others. One of the EU’s flagship initiatives, the Culture programme, is now well-established. In its present form, it runs from 2007 to 2013 with a total budget for the period of around €400 million. It covers all non-audiovisual cultural activities. The ‘Capitals of Culture’ programme sets out to highlight the great diversity of European culture, without forgetting the common wellspring from which much of it flows.
Within the cultural industries in the EU – cinema and audiovisual, publishing, music and crafts – are also important sources of revenue and of jobs, employing more than seven million people.
-Sports
The main sports played in France are soccer, rugby, and tennis. Out of the three though, soccer is by far the most popular. There is a French soccer league system which sets up teams. In addition, France hosted the FIFA World Cups in 1998 and in 2007 the Rugby Union World Cup. France also hosts the annual Tour de France, the most famous road bicycle race in the world.

Religion
The EU is a secular body with no formal connection with any religion, but Article 17 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union recognizes the "status under national law of churches and religious associations" as well as that of "philosophical and non-confessional organisations". Christians in the EU are divided among followers of Roman Catholicism, numerous Protestant denominations (especially in northern Europe), and Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic (in south eastern Europe). Other religions, such as Islam and Judaism, are also represented in the EU population. As of 2009, the EU had an estimated Muslim population of 13 million, and an estimated Jewish population of over a million.
