EU Asteroid Response Plans

Posted by Dr. N Sunday, February 13, 2011

There are six asteroids heading toward the EU and I believe that they can be diverted before they actually impact their projected locations. There are no definite plans for diverting earth bound asteroids, hoverer, there are several theoretical strategies that can be used to change the course of the asteroids. Moreover EU members France and Germany have the resources to carry out these plans.

First there are strategies that involve the use of a satellite to alter the course of the asteroids. One strategy requires a satellite to be flown close to the asteroid in question for a period of time using the gravitational force of the satellite on the asteroid to pull the asteroid off a course for the earth.

Another plan involves using a satellite to physically push the asteroid off course through running the satellite into the asteroid or landing the satellite on the asteroid and then pushing the asteroid.

There are also strategies that do not require the use of satellites. One of these plans involves using a space mirror to melt a portion of the asteroid, altering its path. Moreover, if a portion of the asteroid is colored black or white, photon force could alter the course.

One of the plans could also be carried out even quicker if Russian or US space programs were involved with the EU space programs, tackling all the asteroids together.

Out of all these plans, the two involving a satellite are the most appealing. France already has launched satellites orbiting the earth and some of these could possibly be diverted towards the asteroids. However, on major problem is time. There may be enough time to initiate one of these plans. If there is not enough time other measures must be taken.

An alternative plan would be to evacuate the major cites of the EU that the asteroids are projected to strike. Citizens could be re-located to other countries of the EU, such as Greenland, that are not projected to be hit. Moreover, supplies should be stockpiled to prepare for the possible disasters that could result from the asteroid strikes. Finally, a plan should be made that outlines what should happen in the wake of this disaster. Individuals need to be named that will take charge of helping cities and people recover from the asteroid strike.
